Hi…My name is Judy Siegel. I’m a nutritionist-a food coach. My background is in science and teaching. I have an undergraduate degree in Education, a Master’s degree in Science Education and a second in Exercise Science. When I showed up at the University of Connecticut in 1983 to begin a doctorate degree, I was told I would have to study and pass exams in three areas, not just exercise physiology. Statistics was required and I chose nutrition as the third. Five courses and comprehensive exams in each of the above studies and I had a Ph. D. I belong to National Strength and Conditioning Association and am a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Since 1988 when I completed my degree, I took a job in exercise testing and counseling in Avon. The owner of the business left, but I stayed and have run a weight management program here for the past 20 years. Nutrition counseling can encompass many areas-weight loss, diabetes, weight gain, and just helping someone “get it right”. My clients are all ages. The youngest was six, the oldest, 86. I teach my clients how to eat for the rest of their lives, not just how to get to and maintain a healthy weight.
I am particularly interesting in having my clients understand how food works, not just what to eat, but why. They need tools for making appropriate choices in a wide variety of different settings-the barbeque, the celebration, the football party, the friend’s gathering, etc. There is a new piece of information at each of the 26 meetings. It’s like signing up for a course in nutrition and exercise as it applies to you. It’s personal nutrition coaching.

“I had given up my training program for over 6 months due to surgery and a recent move. I was feeling down about my loss of physical conditioning as well as losing my training network of friends and trainer due to my recent move. Finally, I decided I would set out to hopefully find a trainer who could get me back on track. I chose Ben Petitpas initially because of his credentials - BS Degree in Exercise Science, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and NASM Certified Personal Trainer.”
“When I first met Ben he was totally empathetic to my situation and reassured me that he would give me a customized routine that would strengthen my weak areas while getting me into top physical condition. Each training session he always asked about any concerns before we started our workout to see if he needed to make any adjustment to my workout for that day. His education, personal athletic history, and research give him the edge on handling any issues that arose during the course of my training. In only 4 months I was not only back, but stronger than before. Thanks Ben.”

“Ben is a very good physical trainer. He sets high goals for his clients. Ben is extremely helpful in designing programs for clients to accomplish their goals. He encourages clients to work at their highest ability and if there are physical limitations, he provides other ways or other exercises to accomplish the goals. His personality is very upbeat and he is funny. We love working out with him….well, maybe we like it best at the end of the workout!! He has helped both of us to strive to do better than the workout before. His motivation has helped both of us to improve our workouts and our physical strength. We have experienced many trainers at some of the best spas and health clubs. We would rate Ben as one of the best.”
